7 Reasons Why You Should Visit Arrowtown

Apart from its postcard-perfect quaint houses, Arrowtown is near Queenstown. Twenty mins by car, or two bucks by public transport for those without an automobile.

Arrowtown was once a gold rush village amongst the mountains and a river. Beautiful scenery with attractive routes awaits both hikers and cyclists.

The town has flourished and transformed into a tourist attraction over the years. Yet, there are historical buildings nestled within the neighbourhood for exploration. Here are the seven good reasons why you should not miss Arrowtown while in Queenstown!

(1) It is near, convenient and affordable to go from Queenstown

Despite the proximity, each town comes with a different personality.

Queenstown is a place for adventure. Arrowtown is all about cafes and slow walks – the laid-back brother of QT.

$2 is all you need to get yourself to Arrowtown via Orbus Bus 2 with a GoCard. If not, $3.2 by cash is not too bad either.

Most of the key attractions within Arrowtown are accessible by foot.

(2) Take picturesque shots in the neighbourhood

It may be a small town but there are plenty of picture-worthy shots in Arrowtown. A friend of mine claims that this shot looks exactly like a postcard she has bought.

Learn more about the clash between two communities when life began in Arrowtown.

See the differences between their communities in the Chinese settlement situated on a hilly part of Arrowtown, a short walk from the main road.

(4) Walk or cycle the beautiful routes along the gracious Arrow River

We happened to visit at the right time where lupins of various shades of violet clustered along the bank of the Arrow River.

The path is clearly demarcated for an easy walk by the river.

Be prepared to spend some time browsing through the fresh produce and artistic miscellany when you are down in the small town on Sunday, from Spring to Autumn.

(7) Special exhibitions

Highly dependent on your luck, but do keep a lookout on the space before the ticketed museum.

Keep a lockout on the space before the ticketed museum. There may just be an interesting exhibition on display.

We were fortunate to chance upon Luigi and Kate Agnelli’s art exhibition on the day of our visit. They are two talented Italian who have drawn many intricate drawings. Most of the sketches were inspired from their travel. While we were there, we saw Luigi Agnelli sketching their newest art piece.
